No. It is physically impossible for water ionizer plates to melt or overheat. A water ionizer’s plates are made of platinum coated titanium. It’s impossible to melt or overheat the plates because their melting point is way too high. Platinum melts at 3,125 F (1,768 C) and titanium melts at 3,034 F (1668 C). It is impossible for a water ionizer to reach those temperatures.
Water limits the temperature a water ionizer’s plates can reach
Water boils at 212 F (100 C) after which it turns into steam. The laws of physics dictate that water, in liquid form, will not allow the container it is in to heat up past 212 degrees. A water ionizer doesn’t have anywhere near the power required to boil water.
Because water is constantly flowing over an ionizer’s plates when it is running, the water constantly cools the machine’s plates. This means that the plates in a water ionizer can never heat up past the temperature of the water passing through it.
Nor could a water ionizer’s plates overheat if you empty all the water out. Water conducts the electricity from the negatively charged plates to the positively charged plates. If there’s no water in it, the plates won’t conduct any electricity. The alkaline water machine would simply stop working.
What can damage a water ionizer’s plates?
Two things can harm a water ionizer’s plates: Strong acids (such as hydrochloric acid) and hard water deposits. Strong acids can be generated by an ionizer that uses added chemicals like the kangen water machine. The Kangen machine’s acid supplement is powerful enough to strip the platinum off the machine’s plates!
Hard water can damage a water ionizer’s plates, but with proper maintenance, this problem is rare. Life Ionizers uses a process called Reverse Action Dual Cleaning (RADC) to protect Life Ionizer’s plates from hard water damage. A cleaning cartridge (used during filter changes) also helps maintain the plates. With modern technology and proper maintenance, hard water damage is rare.
What makes a quality water ionizer?
What makes a quality water ionizer plate? The thickness of the platinum coating on the plate. Life Ionizers has the highest-quality ionizer plates in the industry because they have a very thick coating of platinum. Life’s plates have a platinum coating that is about 3 times thicker than the coating of platinum on Enagic’ Kangen Water machine.
Bottom Line: There is no way a water ionizer’s plates can melt or overheat. You should avoid water ionizer salespeople that make that claim – they don’t know what they’re talking about.
