Metabolic Acidosis and Metabolic Syndrome | Symptoms

Metabolic Acidosis and Metabolic Syndrome are conditions that are associated with a low pH balance in the body. Metabolic acidosis is a temporary condition that a healthy body corrects by itself. Metabolic Syndrome is a chronic condition where the body constantly remains at an unhealthy pH balance. Both conditions have consequences for your health.

Metabolic Acidosis

Metabolic acidosis is a temporary codition

When you are out of breath, your body is in a state of respiratory acidosis – Your blood is saturated with CO2, which acidifies it. When the blood pH drops too low, it becomes harder for the blood hemoglobin to release CO2, so it can’t take on fresh oxygen. That’s why even though you are breathing; it feels like you’re suffocating.

Heartburn and an upset stomach are symptoms of digestive metabolic acidosis. Your body normally disposes of digestive acidity by excreting it in the urine. But this system is limited, if your body’s pH balance is already low, this system can become very limited. In this state, your body steals calcium from your bones to neutralize acidity.

When you work out, and you feel your muscles burn, your body is in a state of muscular acidosis. Acidity is the waste product of muscle metabolism; it does not mean you’re building muscle! Athletes know this, and it’s why they alkalize their bodies prior to working out.

 Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is a condition of chronic body acidity

When you are afflicted with metabolic syndrome, multiple metabolic systems in your body are failing. The most common symptom is body fat. Women’s hips get abnormally large, which gives their bodies a pear-shaped appearance. Men gain weight around the waist, and their bodies become apple-shaped.

People with metabolic syndrome usually have high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. Ultimately this leads to hardened arteries and heart trouble. High blood sugar is also a symptom, because the liver is failing.

Kidney stones are common in metabolic syndrome sufferers, and so are weak bones. Kidney stones are formed by excess calcium, oxalate, and salts in the urine. Health experts believe that when the body has to rob the bones of calcium to neutralize acid, it can produce excess calcium in the urine.

Low urine pH is directly correlated with the symptoms of metabolic syndrome. The lower the urine pH, the more symptoms you have. Raising urine pH is one of several treatments doctors use to treat metabolic syndrome. (Maalouf, N, M Cameron, and et al.)

Why Alkaline Water and Diet may help counter metabolic acidity

One way to reduce the amount of acidity in the body is to put alkalis in it to counter the acidity. You do this when you take Tum’s for an upset stomach. Alkaline foods and water have become a popular way to put alkalis in the body. A food is considered to be alkalizing if eating it reduces the acid load in your kidneys.

Alkaline water from a water ionizer has higher alkalinity – the ability to neutralize acid – than regular water. One of the most compelling reasons to drink alkaline water is that it raises the pH of the urine.  Studies have shown that alkaline water can help maintain healthy bones, and the minerals in it are good for your heart. Some health experts have speculated that it may help you lose weight, but that theory hasn’t been tested yet. (Abraham, Guy, and Jorge Flebas.) (Rylander, Ragnar, and Maurice Arnaud) (Wynn, E, MA Krieg, JM Aeschlimann, and P Burckhardt)
