Benefits of Alkaline Water for Body pH Balance
Blood pH
Your blood pH is maintained by your body in a narrow range of 7.35 – 7.45. If blood pH drops too low, the body has three ways to fix it:- Breath – CO2 causes blood pH to drop. Your body responds by breathing deeper and faster
- Urine – Kidneys discharge excess acidity in urine
- Bone – The body takes calcium from the bones to neutralize acidity
Stomach pH
When empty, the stomach may contain a teaspoon or less of stomach acid from your last meal. The stomach makes acid when it is needed. The stomach does not make acid when you drink water. Benefits of alkaline water for the stomach – When alkaline water is drank on an empty stomach, pH in the stomach is increased by .5 – 1 pH. According to clinical research conducted in Japan, the increased pH has a mild antacid effect. Research in Japan on the use of alkaline water for digestive upset resulted in the Japanese Ministry of Health designating alkaline water ionizers as medical devices for use in Japan.Bones
The bones have an alkaline pH, because they are mostly made of calcium. The pH of the bones doesn’t change, but when the blood needs to regulate its pH, calcium is taken from the bones. Benefits of alkaline water for bones – Alkaline water may help protect the bones by reducing the loss of calcium. One study showed that alkaline water reduces markers of bone loss in women - even if they get enough calcium in their diet! Want to learn how to support your health with alkaline water?
